Feeling Accomplished

Yesterday I whipped up these paper dolls (Fabric Dolls as Robot Child #1 insists upon calling them).   Honestly friends, it wasn't difficult.  Probably the easiest thing I've ever made.  NO sewing required!  These come as a fabric print, by Windham fabrics, the Cowboy collection.  A lot of cutting and ironing, but pretty easy!

You iron the dolls and the horses onto that thick Pellon stuff, that's bumpy.  Iron both sides, stick another piece of fabric on the back to sandwich them.  This makes them sturdy.

Then, take the clothes and painstakingly patiently cut them out, iron them onto double sided fusing paper of your choice and then stick on some flannel on the backside.
I cut the tags off because they honestly didn't make sense to me.  Once ironed and 'flannelized' (made up my own word there), they don't fold over and just look dumb sticking up.  The flannel sticks them to the dolls anyway-so what's the point?
I did learn a few things along the way on these that helped in making them.  If anyone is interested in making these and you'd like a tutorial, let me know!

Voila!  You have a happy little set of Cowgirls and boys and their ponies, ready to take over the Wild West!
My girls have played with them all day today.  It was very fun listening to the drama that ensued in the Western desert.   There was a lot of  'Hoe Downs' and wardrobe changes. ;)

Up next, I finished binding this quilt last week and finally popped it in to the wash for that lovely vintage crinkly quilty feel I covet.

Posy Park

Oh, that Aneela Hoey has done it to me again.  I am not sure why, but when Posy came out, I glanced at it and walked away.  Then I had the chance to see it and play with it up front and personal.  Hello, this is adorable fabric.  I'm not sure why it didn't catch my eye the first time I saw it.

I didn't know what to do with it though.  I got a FQ bundle and just stared at it.  Waiting for inspiration to strike.  Lately I've just been making up patterns as I go...this is one of those examples.

Then I ran out of the cream print with the little girls reading.   I nearly cried.  I couldn't find anywhere online that had it and certainly none of my LQS had it....until I drove way past my boundaries of where I normally shop, and found some, in the back tucked away, patiently waiting for me.  I snatched it up and ran as some ladies were hovering over it.  Too bad ladies!  ;)

 I also snatched up the mint green print.  ♥  I think it's my favorite.

I love how it turned out and I am also glad my LQS had the prints, waiting just for me.  ♥

Mine, all mine

I jumped on board the selfish sewing train and made this quilt, (oh and another one) for me.  All me! Muwahahahaha.  I missed the deadline to join in the fun, but I'm still posting it.  It's all about me, right?

Baby Jane Churn

Made entirely out of Baby Jane and a coordinating mint green solid (Aqua, Bella Solid by Moda).  I used the Missouri Star churn dash tutorial on using a layer cake.  I still have 1/2 a cake left!!  Woohoo!  This is throw size, perfect for me.  This was super easy, and no waste!  Even better.

I mixed it up a little, using a solid background on two of the blocks.  It fits my 'modern-traditional' style to a T.  A little bit of old and a little splash of new. :)

It's no surprise that I ♥ a good text print, but this one had me at the little quotes...I especially love this one. 'Live the life you love, love the life you live'. ♥
Yup.  Enough said.

Now, I have some knit fabric I bought in hopes to do some of those cute adorable retro headbands.  Well, knit fabric hates me more than minky.  Altho, minky and I are starting to bridge our friendship.

Anyway.

So, for the giveaway, I have two knit fabrics - brand new.  I am sure you talented people out there can do something amazing with this knit fabric.  Me, not so much...never.. again. 

The black chevron print is about 32 x 64-ish.

The polka-dot tan one is about 1/4 of a yard.

I was lucky enough to meet Heather from Quilt Story a while back.  We've hung out and sewed a few times and she is SO much fun!  She is a creative genius folks.  I've loved hanging out with her...I call her my 'sew-lebrity' friend.  I was giddy like a school girl when I got to first meet her...my first blog I ever followed was Quilt Story, so in my book, her and her sister Megan are famous.   Anyway,  she got me hooked on Breaking Bad.   I've never watched it.  :( I know...I am weird right?  I watch TV like a little old lady - I love TCM and I LOVE black and white movies.  So, if you come to my sewing room, the TV is always set on TCM.  Oh, and my guilty pleasure is the Real Housewives.  UGH...please don't tell anyone. ;)

Isn't this fabric so adorable?  I love it.  Even Robot Husband said it was cute. ;)

I finished up this cute baby farm animal quilt.  It's fresh out of the dryer...nice and soft and crinkly.

The back might be my favorite part.  Well, that and the piggies.  We like piggies over here.

Something about that little lamb in the trailer, the tractors and the little apple on the stump.  SO cute.

The blog got an update. You may have noticed.  I spent the majority of Friday working on centering the header.  Blogger is NOT my friend. Ever.  I cursed the computer several times.  Oh well.  It's going to have to be this way. I give up. ;)

Support your local quilt shows!

This weekend one of our neighboring cities had a Quilt show at one of their town celebration days.  I found the flyer at my LQS and decided to attend.  The flyer said to bring any quilts you'd like to enter, and see what everyone else is making.  What a great way to get involved and check out my new area right?  Yes.

First of all we got lost.  The address listed on the flyer was wrong...said North instead of South.  I am NOT familiar with this area whatsoever since we moved here a few short months ago.  So, I'm driving around in an older part of town, where the address should be, and it's all houses.  Nothing looked like a recreation center. Thank goodness for Google!  I found it and thankfully they let me still enter in my quilts even tho I was late. ;)

Now, this seemed to be a quilt show of the 'older' variety.  More traditional styles.  You can always get inspiration from older, traditional quilts right?

This one was my favorite - with all the different type blocks and look at those flying geese.  They were ITTY BITTY!!  They were sooo small, they gave me anxiety just thinking about trying to make them all perfect points. But so pretty and great work, the quilting too was amazing!

Ahh, love me some vintage sewing machines!

Pardon the pictures - I didn't get a lot of good ones because I was the only one in there at the moment and I felt weird. ;)  I need to get over that.

So, without further delay, I entered in my Giant Vintage Star,  Let's Pretend and Ginorma-Churn.   I just grabbed my favorites and went on my way.  This section of the show, was obviously mine, dedicated to more modern styles... ;)

And guess what??  My Giant Star quilt won for 'Best use of color'!!  Woohoo!  I had no plans on winning anything, I just went to support the quilt show and see what was going on.  BONUS!  I was super excited. Not only did I win a pretty ribbon, but I won a gift certificate to my LQS!  Yay for more fabric!

So, the moral of this post is, support your local quilt show!  You never know what might happen!
