Baby Vintage Star

My WIP - Pattern from the Giant Vintage Star pattern by Jeni Baker.

I LOVE the 2wenty Thr3e fabric line. It is SO fun.

I wanted to keep the prints large scale so I knew this pattern was perfect.

I made my squares smaller tho - for the Baby version.

It's about 45 x45.

 I just need to grab some gray thread today for quilting and it will be done!  I can't wait.

I also purchased this book.  I LOVE it.... if not just for the pretty pictures, there are several quilts in here I want to make.  Funny story - have you ever gone to the store and wanted something and it was the last one left?  However - you wanted to wait, say - to have your JoAnn's coupon to get it?  ;)  So you maybe put the item way on the bottom shelf and behind some other items, in hopes it will be there when you return.  Well, I went to JoAnn's and saw this book, but I, too, wanted to wait.  When I went back, I couldn't find it.  I knew where it was the last time, front and center on the top shelf, and there were a few copies.  I hunted high and low.  Finally I found it...tucked on the very bottom shelf, hidden in the back row behind some knitting books.  So - if this was your book that you wanted to save for later when you had your coupon - I am sorry.  I bought it.... with my coupon. :)

 I truly am sorry - I really wanted it and I'm glad to have it in my hot greedy hands.

So, I am jumping on this Bloglovin bandwagon...we'll see how it goes. I'm always up for something new.    I have a hard time with Google Reader sometimes, going back and forth in and out of my blog...maybe I'm just lame at it.  Who knows.    This even has a cool app for your phone, so when you are stuck somewhere, waiting to pick up kids from school, you can browse through your blogs for a little 'me-time'!  That's what I like to do anyway. Peek-A-Boo, I see you!

EEEK!  This is finished.

Well, it's been finished but Mother Nature decided it really wasn't spring

and granted us more snow...which I'm pretty sure I didn't ask for.

This quilt was done with the 'Looking In' pattern from the most talented Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew.

She is awesome...I had a question on another pattern I've been trying to work on, the Pow Wow pattern and I emailed her and she wrote me right back!  Super awesome!

Of note:  I SUCK at reading patterns.  I don't have the gift to understand patterns and/or follow ANY directions.  Haha.

I used a super soft pink cuddle fabric.

This melts against you, like sleeping under a pink magical cloud of awesome-ness.

Although, to be honest...I HATE sewing with minky and cuddle fabric.

It drives me mad.

But, we got through it...barely.

I will do a short tutorial later on HOW I suffered through this and some tips I found to help. :)

So cute - the binding is a pink/white checkered print. 

There are several novelty fabrics inside the 'windows'.  I love the darker pink with the bunnies and bears.

Super fun for I-Spy.

Random Friday

This is not a quilty post.  This is a random ranting post.

I watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers the other night.  The one from 1978 with Donald Sutherland and the crazy mayor lady from Witches of Eastwick.  OMG...HOW is it that I have NEVER seen this movie before??  It needs to be in my alien, horror cult classic collection. NOW!  So awesome.  And I was shrieking at the end.  ♥'d it.

It's snowing...again.  I'm uber sick of the snow.  Isn't it supposed to be spring?

Mimi the pug sheds like it's going out of style...like it's 'cool' to shed.  I have tried the 'Furminator' from Petsmart.  It does a good job, but I'd have to brush her like 3 times a day...then she still sheds.   I tried getting a t-shirt to put on her to contain the hair.  She refused to move.  And pouted.  And still shed.

Here she is...not moving.

So, I am going to try some vitamins.  Sigh - we'll see if that works. Otherwise, I will just have to continue to send the kids to school, covered in hair and vacuum everyday for the rest of forever.  She's still cute and I ♥ her.  Furball and all.  If you have any advice or tips, please share!!

I have a couple quilts going now..waiting for the backing to come via mail, and I need to audition some backing fabric for the other...oh yah-and I'm starting a triangle quilt that I'm super excited about.  Hint:   MINT GREEN!  EEEK!

Blasted Iron!

Has this ever happened to you?

You get your lovely quilt all put together and finished, only to realize there is a, GASP, scorch mark!

I was so upset.  However, this is not the first time this has happened to me.

Not sure why, but every once in a while, my iron decides to scorch the white fabric.

Yes, only the white fabric.

Blasted iron!

So, here is what you do friends.

Get a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide.

I got the Western Family brand for like $1.59. Can't beat that.

It doesn't need to be fancy schmancy.

Get a white washrag and get the corner of it wet with the hydrogen peroxide.

Lay the rag on the spot that was scorched and set your iron on top.  It will steam like crazy, once the steam

has stopped, lift up the rag and......

Voila!

Can you see it?

The picture isn't that great, but trust me, it's not there. :)

Woohoo!

Carseat Quilt

A friend of ours is having a baby this week.  I had wanted to make them a quilt, then forgot about the due date.

Robot Husband so graciously informed me, I had 7 days to make a quilt. 

No biggie.

I found a super cute pattern here, to make a car seat quilt.

How often do those cute little bundles of joy, kick their quilts or blankies off their car seats or strollers?

Problem solved.

See the little ties?

Tie it on to the car seat handles or stroller and, voila!

Snug baby.

I quilted this with free motion stippling on the outer border, then did circle loops in the white middle border.

I am by no means a mathematician.  I was having heart palpitations the entire time in the middle, wondering if I was going to run into the other row, or over a row etc.  Sigh....amazingly, I didn't and it turned out.

I don't ever really plan ahead my quilting.  I just sort of go for it.

One of these days that is going to bite me.  Hard.

Luckily for this baby, it didn't. :)

I had some highly cherished Sophie fabric in my stash, which I used for the middle.  Oh, how I love that Sophie line.

Why do they have to stop making lines?  I want it back!  NOW!

I took this quilt with me to my local quilt shop, looking for matching fabric for the back, the border and the binding.

Apparently the quilt shop owners feel the same way about the Sophie line as I do. :)

It's lovely.

Love Birds

I will be so excited for the weather to warm up so I can get some decent pictures!

Or we could move to a warmer climate....  ;) 

This is just a basic pattern, with adorable fabric that has a 'francoise' feel to it.

The love birds are adorable and sweet, hence the title.

This is a SUPER girlie quilt, very feminine and sweet - it'll make your teeth hurt.

I ♥ it.

And as you know, I love me a stripe-y binding.  So here you go.

I need to start just buying stripe-y fabric in bulk, seeing how I most always do a stripe-y binding. :)

And just because, here is a snarky pug face to make your day.
