Scoot Baby

I've been sick all weekend, but I have been working on this.
I picked this up as a quilt kit from my local quilt shop.
I'm in love with kits - especially when I'm trying something new, like ensuring the color pattern is placed correctly.  If you remember, the Rainbow Hourglass quilt took me an entire day to figure out the color placement.

I'm just finishing up the binding, while I lay in bed trying to get rid of this nasty cold..

I also tried a new technique (new to me).  Zig-zagging the edges of the quilt after I've machine sewed on the front of the binding.  I hate all the loose threads that sneak out of the binding after I've washed it.  This should hopefully clear up that pesky issue. :)

A Pony Pillow

My 8 year old wanted to make a pillow out of her favorite pair of jammies.
We had a sewing night and whipped this up together.   We fussy cut out the pony that was the PJ top.  Then we took the brown polka dot print, which was the PJ bottoms, and cut them up for the borders.
It was a fun sewing bonding project for mama and daughter. :)

I bought this fabric on sale and didn't realize it was a fleece type material, which I don't normally use.
It worked perfect for tying this together.  She ♥'s it.  That's all that matters.

Stuff

For lack of a better title, here is a look at some 'stuff' I made this weekend. :)

Mew Mew Zipper Pouch

I Heart Cupcakes Zipper pouch

Sneak peek - Out to Sea quilt top

Have I told you how much I am in love with the 'Out to Sea' line of fabric?? Well, if not, I'm SO in ♥ with it!
It's too cute.  I bought a huge fat quarter pack from here and I think I just might be able to gently squeeze 3 quilts out of it.  Woohoo!!

Rainbow quilt is done! Oh, and a Mourning Dove

Isn't it purdy?
I love love love how this turned out.
I did not realize how forgiving Hourglasses are to make...the points line up perfect and it looks like I am a super pro at quilting.  HAHAHAHAHA.

I straight-line quilted this baby.

I found this vintage-y yellow flower fabric for the back and border. I wanted it to be the same nostalgic print, but not be overwhelming.  Robot Child #1 called the binding, Apricot dots. :)

We have a mama Mourning dove in our tree.  She has two little babies.  She sits on top of them.  I guess to keep them protected or warm, whatever...That's what Robot Husband said.  I think it's to keep them quiet...I wish I could sit on my kids sometimes.  Haha.  JK.  Sitting on children is no laughing matter, unless you are a bird...in which case it is perfectly acceptable.

Rainbow Hourglass

WIP
Rainbow Hourglass quilt top
This was fun to put together.  Not so fun trying to figure out the rainbow pattern.
I struggled.  Apparently I need to go back to kindergarten and learn about the color wheel some more.
Oh, and math. :(

The fabric is 'Once Upon a Storybook'.  I am going to put some white borders on, then hopefully see if I can find some coordinating fabric to do another border. I love the vintage-y look of this collection.
There are 80 hourglasses.  It took me some time, but once I got a system going, it wasn't too bad.

Quilting inspiration from the Farmers Market

This weekend I took the family out to the library....well, okay-let's be honest here.  I had a plan to go to the fabric store, which happens to be next door to the library, which the children and Robot Husband had been wanting to go to.  It was a win win situation for everyone involved.  :)  When I got done with my fabric shopping, I walked back over to the library and surprised my husband, who apparently thought I would be there for hours, buried under fabric.  I knew what I wanted needed.  I think he was just entranced in the DVD selection.  Anyway, we checked out our books, Robot Child #1 was uber excited to get her very own library card.  Since I forgot mine, she got to check out my 6 or so quilting books.  They had an awesome selection!
On our way back to the car, my husband noticed a bunch of quilts hanging out at the Farmers Market that was happening.  Of course we had to check them out.  There were some lovely quilts out.  The one above was my favorite.  I wish I could have gotten a picture of the back, it was equally colorful, bright and entertaining, plus I love the modern look of it.

**Pardon my pictures - It was impromptu, had to use the phone. :( Lame, I know.

This one had some beautiful FMQ done.

This one was AMAZING.  The quilter had used a different color thread to quilt in each section, so the back (which was the dark blue color) showed each vibrant color, outlining the elephant.  I loved this and would have probably stolen it and made a run for it, if there wasn't a woman sitting there watching my every move.
No, I'm kidding...I don't steal quilts.  Yet....

Agh!  Cherries....I love this one too.  The fabric, the pattern...all of it.

And pink stars.  Love.  Plus this had some amazing FMQ to it too.

I didn't know quilts were displayed at Farmers Markets.  Well, at least they are at this one?
Who knows, but I apparently need to go to more of them.
